Northern Wisconsin

I’ve been away for a while but my plan has worked, at least once.  My plan was to have Pam start adding a few postings to the blog so it wouldn’t be so bad if I took a long time between postings.  She started this blog several years ago and has at least temporarily given up on her beading and other hobbies and has picked up a camera.  I convinced her to contribute some of her own images to this blog.  You can see some of her favorite shots on an earlier post.  I am the one she says inspires her, I don’t know about that, I just want her to enjoy her new found hobby.  While I was up in WI I went over the camera with her explaining what the different settings do.  Even though I have a digital camera myself I had to actually read the instructions for some of the settings so I understood what they do.

I went up to WI to help my dad celebrate his 80th birthday; we had a great time by the way, you will have to imagine the celebration, there will be no photos unless you come upon images somewhere else.

I was up there for a week visiting family for several days, ending up in Bayfield, WI by the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior for my last two days.  I will be posting my photographic adventures.

Right side of the falls
I will start with Bond Falls in MI (Michigan).  For those of you from WI and MI you know about the UP, that’s where you find the falls.  For the rest of you, the UP is the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  My niece said the falls were pretty cool so I had to Google the falls first to find them then to decide how ‘cool’ they were.  Cool is different to a 20 year old than to a 55 year old.  She was right, they were pretty cool.  I highly recommend you see them if you are in the area.  Here’s one of many links to the falls, http://www.gowaterfalling.com/waterfalls/bond.shtml

Left side of the falls
The bottom of the main portion of the falls is split into two areas.  Above the main falls is a series of smaller steps which I had to go up and see.  There are steps alongside the falls so it is easy to see the whole area.  The water does actually have that brownish color due to the tamarack trees that grow all over this area.  I also got a faint whiff of iron which is also prevalent in this area.  It reminded me of all the times we went camping in WI when we were growing up.

Upper falls, 1/30 exposure
I recently bought some filters for my camera so I could extend the exposure time causing water movement to blur.  I shot a number of images with and without the filter and I have included some of them so you can see the difference longer exposure times makes.  The range is from 1/100 of a second to 1.3 seconds.
Upper falls, 1.3 second exposure
